ABN Movement Disorders SIG
The Movement Disorder Special Interest Group (MD SIG)
The Association of British Neurologists (ABN) Movement Disorder Special Interest Group (MD SIG) for UK clinicians is focused on both hyperkinetic conditions (such as dystonia, chorea, and ataxias) and hypokinetic conditions like Parkinson's disease. The group holds dedicated annual conferences featuring distinguished faculty and provides career training opportunities. The MD SIG frequently partners with organisations like Parkinson's UK to fund advanced clinical training fellowships in movement disorders. The MD SIG Conference is open to all ABN ordinary, associate, and affiliate members.
Annual Conference Introduction
The conference is an annual educational and networking event explicitly designed for healthcare professionals working in movement disorders. The event is organised by PH Production Services on behalf of the ABN Movement Disorders Special Interest Group and is open to ABN members and healthcare professionals (such as consultants, registrars, and specialist nurses) actively working within the field.
2027 Annual Conference will be held at Radisson Blu, Glasgow on 21st and 22nd January. Sessions will be led by distinguished faculty of movement disorder specialists, and we hope that our agenda will provide you with the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter to you with our expert faculty members. The annual conference will feature expert led sessions, clinical updates, case studies and has a focussed trainee day.

As part of our plans for the SIG during our tenure we aim to:
– Continue the annual SIG meetings in geographically diverse areas, including Scotland and Wales. If you are keen to discuss hosting a SIG meeting please let us know.
– We plan to strengthen links with our colleagues in the British Geriatrics Society movement disorder group and consider joint meetings.
– We are committed to continuing to support the ABN movement disorders fellowship programme which was led by Mark Edwards and supported by other colleagues including Mike Samuel and Nagaraja Sarangmat. The movement disorders fellowships have been a pioneer in post-CCT fellowships endorsed by the ABN and we are proud to have been involved in this. If you are interested in being a host centre or want more information on which centres can host a potential fellow, please get in touch.
Lastly, this is your special interest group so please get in touch if you have any queries, feedback or suggestions. The board can be contacted via our secretary at the following email address: a.macerollo@liverpool.ac.uk. She will be in charge to bring your queries to the board.
